The end of last year, I had a Rocky marathon. I watched all the movies for the first time and quite enjoyed a few of them. I found out on Balboa Park's Facebook (on a Monday) that they had a Rocky Balboa statue in one of their museums. So naturally I must see it in person. The statue is located at the San Diego Hall of Champions and Balboa Park does a free residents Tuesday. (Residents Free Day Website) And SD Hall of Champions just so happened to be on the list for the next day. My dad and I drove down to Balboa Park to see this statue.
When we walked in the SD Hall of Champions, we were thinking where could it be and then we get around the banners in the front and see the back of Rocky Balboa. And my dad and I got super gitty and excited. It's kind of crazy how excited we got for a fictional character but the impact Rocky Balboa has on pop culture is important. He is a true American dream.
After looking around the SD Hall of Champions we decided to go to the other museums that were free that Tuesday and some of the other that are free all year long. Firstly I truly love taking photos the the Bell Tower. I could take photos of it all day. It is just very beautiful architecture and I believed I saw people walking to the top, if that is a true thing you can do I'm going to have to do it one time. We went to Timken Museum of Art (Always free- closed on Mondays) saw lots of cool are. Then went to the Botanical Building for the first time since visiting San Diego in April 2010. I have been trying to go back for the past 6 years but its always closed when I would go. I was very excited when I saw it was finally open. There are tons of beautiful greenery, and orchids everywhere. The lighting in the Botanical Building is extremely beautiful and I loved how my images turned out.
The Last place we went of this trip to Balboa Park was the San Diego History Center. I was the last on the list for free resident Tuesday museums we could go to. The main exhibit in the History Center was the 100 year anniversary of the San Diego Zoo. All in all I had a blast in Balboa Park, like I always do. One of my favorite places to photograph. I want to plan trips back on other Tuesdays so I can visit all the other museums around there.
